Roewe D7: A Hybrid Sedan That Redefines Efficiency and Innovation

Shereen Shabnam

The Roewe D7 emerges as one of the most compelling mid-size sedans today, blending striking design with intelligent engineering. Available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and pure electric model, the D7 pushes boundaries in efficiency,  most notably by setting a Guinness World Record for a PHEV, covering 2,208 km on a single tank and charge, which is a testament to its class-leading range and engineering prowess.

Exterior

The Roewe D7 presents a sleek, modern silhouette that balances elegance with subtle aggression. Its long wheelbase and streamlined roofline give it a premium stance, while crisp character lines and narrow LED lighting elements enhance its visual width and presence. The sedan’s proportions are poised and upscale, hinting at a progressive blend of performance and luxury. Details such as flush or refined handles and aerodynamic surfaces contribute to a contemporary and purposeful aesthetic.

Interior

Inside, the D7 carries a thoughtfully designed cabin focused on comfort and tech-centric ergonomics. High-resolution digital displays form the centerpiece of the dash, typically pairing a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a digital instrument cluster for a cohesive, tech-forward feel. Seating supports comfort for long drives, enhanced by features like ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof, while connectivity options including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keep occupants linked to their digital lives. Practical touches such as split-fold rear seats and generous cargo capacity add everyday usability, especially for me as a working mum needing enough space for my gym bag, groceries and equipment for the child’s diving lessons, golf lessons and horse riding lessons.

Technology

The Roewe D7 is engineered with a suite of intelligent systems. Dual 12.3-inch screens anchor the cockpit, integrating navigation, media, and vehicle settings with crisp visuals and responsive controls. Connected driving features, including telematics and smartphone integration, elevate convenience, while driver-assist technologies, such as adaptive cruise control and 360° cameras to provide support on the road. Intelligent energy management in the PHEV variant maximises range and efficiency.

Performance

As a plug-in hybrid, the D7 combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack to deliver both efficiency and usable performance. The PHEV version offers up to 1,400 km total range on a full tank plus charge in everyday use, with about 125 km of pure electric range, exceptional for a hybrid sedan. Its Guinness World Record run saw the D7 cover 2,208 km without refuelling or recharging, highlighting real-world endurance and economy. While pure electric versions provide up to roughly 610 km of CLTC range and brisk acceleration (0–100 km/h in as quick as ~6.5 seconds), the hybrid’s strength lies in its balance of fuel economy and long-distance capability.

Our Verdict

The Roewe D7 is a standout in the evolving landscape of electrified sedans. It pairs a striking exterior and comfortable, tech-rich interior with performance that meets expectations and sets benchmarks. The Guinness World Record achievement underscores its real-world efficiency, while versatile powertrain options ensure there is a flavour of D7 to suit different priorities, whether range-focused hybrid efficiency or all-electric refinement. For drivers who value innovation, sustainability, and a premium experience without the premium price tag typically associated with such capability, the D7 is a compelling choice in its segment.
